Events Diary

   Keeping you informed

THE Peacehaven & District Chamber of Commerce is a very active Chamber with an events diary to match.

For as well as providing opportunities for businesses to come together and network, the Chamber organises activities to benefit its members such as workshops, presentations and social events. For the early birds there's a weekly breakfast meeting and for night owls a monthly informal networking session. From time to time the Chamber hosts an evening meeting.

And, because all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, the Chamber arranges a number of social events throughout the year.

Trade Show

Make a diary note for Wednesday 18 June 2008, when the Chamber will be hosting its first ever business exhibition between 10 am and 6 pm at the Meridian Centre in Peacehaven. Styled "The Peacehaven Home & Business Showcase", this event is aimed at businesses and the general public alike and is a great opportunity to make new business contacts, learn more about businesses trading in and around Peacehaven, and find out if self-employment is for you.

30 Chamber members will be taking part and you can learn more about each business and the products and services they provide at the main exhibit which is taking place in the Main Hall.

Throughout the day a series of short talks on subjects of interest to established businesses, the general public and anyone wishing to set up in business are taking place in the Anzac Room from 10.30 am. Topics include "Working from Home", "Three Vital Steps to Growing Your Business", "Estate Planning", "Buying Property Overseas" among others.

OTHER MEETINGS

As well as giving member businesses the opportunity to 'network', the Chamber acts as a combined voice for the local business community. So that the Chamber can best represent the interests of its members meetings take place so that members can air their views on local issues such as the bus lanes.

From time to time the Chamber hosts workshops on business-related subjects or invites guest speakers to address meetings.

SOCIAL EVENTS

For the enjoyment of members, their families and staff the Chamber organises a small number of social events throughout the year. If you're a member and you've a suggestion for a good day or night out get in touch with the Chamber's social secretary, Rachel Brown

 street Market in Boulogne

Boulogne-sur-Mer lies on the mouth of the river Liane. The origins of its port stretch back to Romans times when Boulogne was the main link for trade between Britain and Gaul.

In the Middle Ages, the Old Town sprang up within the walls of the old Roman fort, whilst the port grew along the river.

The town was captured briefly by Henry VIII and stone cannon balls fired by the English are on view today in the crypt of the Cathedral.

Boulogne was Napoleon's base between 1802 and 1805 as he prepared to invade Britain.

After 1815 Boulogne became popular once more with British visitors,  including the artist Turner who left many sketches and watercolours of the town and seascape.

Today Boulogne is a centre of history and art. Vistors to Boulogne can soak up the atmosphere in its many street cafes and bars, sample local cuisine at a restaurant, take a stroll around the Old Town or along the sandy beach, buy local delicaces from the market or visit the boutiques.
